Squarespace runs a commercial about a guy who builds a thriving seat cushion business at artisanseatcushions.com. Inspiring stuff. Great pacing. I heard it maybe nine times.

Somewhere around the ninth listen, I opened a registrar in another tab. — A decision made in under 90 seconds

The domain was unregistered. A national ad campaign had been pointing at an empty lot for months. So I bought it, because leaving it there felt like litter.

What you're looking at is the follow-through. Somebody had to build the website. Squarespace only made the commercial.

The domain is real. This website is real. The seat cushion company itself was written for a Squarespace commercial and has never existed. The only thing you can buy here is a $3 PDF about the history of cushions, which is also real, and which I wrote.

Squarespace advertising features a fictional entrepreneur who launches an artisan seat cushion business and builds his storefront on Squarespace. The spot names his website out loud, which is how most people end up here — they hear the domain, get curious, and type it in.

Was the domain really available?

Yes, and that is the strange part. A national advertising campaign pointed at that address for months while it sat unregistered. I checked WHOIS on a whim, found it open, and bought it in about ninety seconds.
